Web 2.0 applications use the Web merely as a platform. Web 2.0 applications harness collective intelligence, promote user participation, and allow users to have greater control and ownership over their own data. Web 2.0 applications are usually offered in form of services as opposed to packaged applications. They use multiple sources of information, include data transformation features, and are platform-independent. Lastly, Web 2.0 applications are made to be scalable, and have lightweight user interfaces.
